  • Midway Clay is located on University Avenue in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood. Click here for location and parking information.

  • Midway Clay does not have regular hours. Members can access the studio 24/7. Class participants can come to the studio during their class time and during their reserved open studio hours.

    Our gallery space is open during special events and exhibitions. Visit our Events page for more information.

  • Yes! Midway Clay has both gas and electric kiln space available for rent to members and non-members. Pricing is dependent on volume and temperature needed. Click here for more information, or reach out to us.

  • Midway members and other artists are invited to show their work at three annual gallery exhibitions each year: the St. Paul Art Crawl in the spring and fall, and weekend gallery hours during the holiday season. If you are not a member of Midway and would like to participate in these opportunities, you can reach out to us.

    Our 450-square-foot gallery space is also available to rent on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis for pop-up shows, private events, or longer-term exhibitions. Click here for more information.

  • Yes! Our community classroom space is available for parties of up to 10, and our large studio space can accommodate larger groups. Perfect for birthday parties, team building, or just a fun night creating with clay! Reach out to us at info@midwayclay.com for more information.

  • Midway Clay is staffed by part-time instructors and studio assistants that support our community and keep things running smoothly. If you are interested in sharing your pottery skills by teaching a class at Midway, please reach out to us.

Classes

  • No! We offer classes designed for people with absolutely no clay experience. If you just want to get your feet wet, sign up for a one-day Sip & Spin or our 6-week Taste of Wheel course. If you’re ready to dive in, our 8-week Wheel Throwing class is a great place to start. Our instructors will guide you through the fundamental skills and techniques you need as you begin your clay journey.

  • Unless otherwise indicated in the class description, the class fee includes 25 pounds of clay per participant and all the tools, equipment, and materials you need to complete your pieces. If you would like to purchase additional pieces to bring home, you can do so through KilnFire or by talking to your instructor.

  • All the supplies, equipment, and tools you need for class will be provided by Midway. Working with clay is messy, so we recommend that you wear clothing and shoes that can get dirty. Leave jewelry and valuables at home.

  • Many of our classes include a certain number of open studio hours during the class session. Think of open studio time like office hours, but for pottery! You can use these open studio hours for practice time or to make up classes you missed. Open studio is also a good time to stop by and pick up your finished work after your class ends.

    You must make a reservation through KilnFire for open studio time. There are typically open studio hours scheduled each day of the week, Monday through Sunday. You can also use KilnFire to check how much open studio time you have remaining.

    Be sure to make a reservation if you plan to come in for open studio, as the hours may be canceled if nobody is signed up.

  • Class participants can purchase additional hours of open studio time through KilnFire, up to a maximum of seven additional hours without prior agreement.

    Midway Clay does not offer general drop-in open studio time.

  • Yes! Each of our classes comes with a certain number of pieces for you to bring home. If you’re interested in keeping more, you can purchase additional pieces through KilnFire or speak to your instructor.

  • We are not able to offer refunds or make-up days for missed classes. Instead, we encourage you to use your open studio time to make up any class time you miss during the course.

  • All cancellation requests must be made 1 week prior to the class via email for a 50% refund. There are no refunds for missed classes during the session, or cancellations under 1 week.

    You can reschedule one-day classes no later than 72 hours in advance, subject to a $20 rescheduling fee. All rescheduling requests must be made at least 72 hours prior to class time via email. Requests under 72 hours cannot be accommodated.

Memberships

  • If you’re interested in joining Midway as a member, please reach out to us for next steps.

  • Members have 24/7 studio access. When you become a member, we’ll issue you a code that you can use to enter the building.

    Membership space is first come, first served. The classroom space is reserved during class times and will not be available for member use. You can check the class schedule through KilnFire before coming to the studio to see what will be available.

  • Members can use community wheels, tools, and glazes, as well as our slab roller and extruder. If you are renting a half space or full space, you must provide your own wheel and furniture.

  • Yes, you are welcome to bring and use your own clay and/or glazes. Midway Clay also has glazes available for members and students and offers clay available for purchase.
